Why 100? 100 is the perfect number. It's the top of the scale, it's the highest percentage. 100 words in a story though are fast and furious. While you don't get the time for character development, carefully placed words can truly set a scene and tell a story. 100 words force a writer to think about every word used and to not waste a single one.
